Need To Pivot Your Business – Here’s a Simple But Powerful Way

Observe and imitate!

Look, it’s probably quite obvious that the way you did business last year is not going to work now.

So the first thing you need to do is observe. Observe, interally, what’s changed and/or what you can no longer do effectively/profitably. For example, people are no longer coming in and dining in your restaurant. That means you need to figure out a way to sell your food without people dining in.

This leads us to our 2^nd observation step. Observe, externally, who (i.e. what business or businesses) were effectively and profitably doing business this way before (i.e last year).

Then, the final step – imitate!

And when I say “imitate” I mean really get into the details. How are these businesses set up, what systems do they have in place, what human resources to they employ, how do they advertise and market? What do their operations look and feel like.

Answer these questions, then implement, and you will be on your way to the business pivot you need.

Observing (internally and externally) will not only allow you to survive, but will help you thrive!

As I’ve said many times since this pandemic hit – some of the changes you make today in order to get through this will be changes that you will keep and will pay exponential dividends in the future as we move into “the new normal”
